The Mirror Pond Mixup
In a meadow where the wildflowers dance, Lived Squeak the Squirrel, full of prance. She'd leap from branch to twig with glee, But oh, what fun by the Mirror Pond Tree! The water sparkled like a silver plate, Reflecting clouds and the sun's warm gate. Squeak splashed and dashed, without a care, But wait—what's that? A friend is there!
Nutty the Nutmeg Mouse came skipping near, With a tiny backpack, full of cheer. "I've got acorns, shiny and round!" He called to Squeak, his voice a sound Like rustling leaves on a breezy day. But Squeak was busy, in her playful way. She flicked her tail with a splashy flick, And—oops!—wet Nutty, quick as a trick!
Nutty sputtered, fur all askew, "Hey, Squeak! That wasn't nice of you!" Squeak giggled back, "It was just for fun! You're all dry now—come on, let's run!" But Nutty frowned, his whiskers drooped low. "I don't like wet! You made me glow With grumpy drops from head to toe. No more playing—off I go!" He turned away, with a huff and a puff, Leaving Squeak alone, feeling... not enough.
Squeak stared at the pond, so clear and bright. Her face looked back in the watery light. "Why's Nutty mad? It was just a splash!" She pondered, tail twitching in a flash. Then—splash!—she saw it, plain as day: The pond showed *her* doing the same play. If Nutty splashed *her*, would she feel glee? Or soggy and sad, like a drowned-up tree? "Oh dear," said Squeak, with a thoughtful sigh. "Treat others how *I'd* want to be treated—oh my!"
Squeak dashed through the meadow, quick as a bee, Chasing Nutty under the old oak tree. "Nutty, wait! I'm sorry for the wet surprise. It wasn't fun—now I see with my eyes! If you splashed me, I'd feel all glum and blue. So let's make it right—what can I do?" Nutty peeked out, his frown turning soft. "Really, Squeak? You'd fix it aloft?"
Squeak nodded fast, her eyes big and wide. "Let's play a game where we both decide! I'll share my berries, sweet and red, And you can splash *gently* on my head. But only if it's fun for us two— No soggy surprises, just me and you!" Nutty's ears perked, a smile broke free. "That sounds perfect—come splash with me!
They dipped their paws in the cool, clear blue, Splashing in rhythms, one, two, three—whoo! Berries bobbed like boats on the wave, Laughter echoed, so bold and brave. The Mirror Pond twinkled with their joy, No more mix-ups for this girl and boy. Squeak and Nutty, best friends anew, Dancing in drops, through and through.
As the sun dipped low, painting skies in gold, They sat by the pond, stories untold. "Remember, friends," Squeak whispered low, "Treat others kindly, and watch friendship grow." "Like you'd want a hug when you're feeling small, Or a share of the fun when you risk a fall." Nutty nodded, his heart all warm. "The Golden Rule—it's the best charm!"
Fireflies flickered, like stars come to play, Lighting their path at the end of the day. Squeak and Nutty waved goodnight so sweet, Promising more adventures, light on their feet. The meadow hushed, but the lesson stayed, In every splash and kind word they'd say.
