Squirrel's Resourceful Riddle
In an oak-filled forest, where leaves twirl and fall, Lived Skippy the Squirrel, nimble and small. Winter winds whispered, "Store nuts for the snow!" But Skippy's tree empty— oh no, what to do? His neighbors all hoarded, cheeks puffed full and round, While Skippy scratched head, "No acorns to be found!" Friends scampered by, with their bounty so grand, "Too bad, little Skip— try to understand."
Skippy sat still, tail twitching with thought, "Resourcefulness calls— I won't be caught! No nuts here? Then find them where others won't look— A clever plan's brewing, like a page from a book." He scampered to Rabbit, with a wink and a grin, "Trade me a burrow for my fluffy tail spin? I'll fluff up your den, soft as a cloud dream— And you share a nut? What a team!"
Rabbit agreed quick, one nut for the fluff, Skippy's cheeks fuller— but not quite enough. Next to Bird's branch, where twigs tangled tight, "I'll weave you a cradle, cozy and right! In return for a seed from your hidden supply?" Bird chirped delighted, "You're clever— oh my!" With nimble paws twisting, the nest held so true, Another treat tucked— now two in his crew.
But clouds gathered gray, with a rumble so low, A storm shook the branches, scattering the snow. Nuts rolled in rivers, lost to the flood— Friends wailed in worry, "Our winter's in mud!" Skippy dashed quick, his mind all a-whirl, "Resourceful squirrels turn loss into pearl! We'll dig shallow spots, line 'em with leaves dry and thick— Hide them in puzzles, a clever nut trick!"
He showed them the way, with a burrow half-buried, Under mossy logs, where the rains weren't so hurried. "Mark with a twig twist, remember the bend— Resourcefulness saves us, my woodland friends!" They worked paw in paw, through the downpour and chill, Rescuing treasures with Skippy's quick skill. Cheeks bulging once more, the forest folk cheered, "You're a riddle of smarts— winter's not feared!"
But sly Fox prowled near, nose twitching with greed, "Those nuts smell divine— I'll snatch what I need!" He dug at the spots, but the riddles confused— Twigs led in circles, his paws all bemused. Skippy peeked from a knot, chuckling low, "Use what's around you— that's how we grow! A leaf for a flag, a stone for a sign— Resourcefulness tricks even the craftiest swine."
Winter blanketed white, with frost crisp and cold, But Skippy's caches kept bellies from cold. Friends gathered 'round, sharing tales by the fire, "Your wits saved the day— you're our clever sire!" Skippy blushed bushy-tailed, with a nut in his paw, "Resourcefulness whispers— use what you saw. Trade, build, and hide with a twist and a turn— In scarcity's riddle, there's plenty to learn."
Spring danced in with green, and the forest awoke, Skippy taught tricks to the young woodland folk. From burrows to branches, no nut left behind— Resourceful hearts make the toughest paths kind. When troubles arise, don't fret or just wait— Think sharp and act, turn 'no' into 'great!' Your mind's the best tool, in forest or glen- Clever solutions, again and again.
As sun set in gold on the oaks standing tall, Skippy dreamed deep of the next clever call. More riddles to solve, more winters to face— A squirrel is resourceful, in every place!
